Law firm welcomes new attorney Kim Smith.

The law firm of Bish, Butler & Thompson, Ltd. is pleased to announce that Kimberly A. Smith has recently joined the firm as an associate attorney. Born and raised in the Defiance area, Smith graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School in May 2014.

“It is great to be out of the classroom and actually practicing,” Smith said. “I am excited to use and develop the advocacy skills taught in law school.” Smith will be assisting clients in matters involving real estate, probate and estate planning, construction law, business law as well as general civil practice. With offices in Bryan and Defiance, Bish, Butler & Thompson, Ltd. provides legal services to individuals, businesses and governmental entities throughout Northwest Ohio. “When you have the opportunity to add someone with Kim’s exceptional educational background you have to jump at the chance,” says partner Tom Thompson.

“We are thrilled that she has joined our team and believe our clients will be as well.”

“Attending Vanderbilt and living in Nashville was a wonderful experience. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to attend a law school that is competitive but fosters a friendly social atmosphere,” added Smith. Vanderbilt has consistently ranked as one of the top 20 law schools in the nation. At Vanderbilt, Smith was an editor for the Vanderbilt Journal of Entertainment and Technology Law, a member of the Moot Court board, the recipient of Vanderbilt’s National Association of Women Lawyers’ Outstanding Law Student Award and was a national finalist in the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry’s Law Student Writing Competition.

Prior to law school, Smith received an associate’s degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from Owens Community College and worked as a structural drafter for Sponseller Group, Inc. in Holland, Ohio. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Bowling Green State University, graduating with honors in 2011.

Smith resides in rural Defiance County with her husband, Charles Beck, who works for his family’s farm. They are members of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
